I'm George Carasco. I fix the things on your list that have been sitting there for eight months — the door that won't latch, the fence board on the ground, the shelf you bought and never hung. You'll get a straight answer on the phone and I'll show up when I say I will.
What I do
The honey-do list, handled.
Most of my work is the stuff that's too small for a contractor to bother with and too annoying to do yourself on a Saturday. If it's on this list, call me. If it isn't, call anyway — I'll tell you straight if it's not my job.
Doors & locks
Doors that stick, drag, won't latch or won't close. New knobs, deadbolts, strike plates, weather stripping, sliding-door rollers.
Drywall patches
Holes, dings, doorknob dents, old anchor holes. Patched, textured and painted so you can't find where it was.
Mounting & hanging
TVs, shelves, mirrors, curtain rods, cabinets, closet systems, art. Into studs, level, and not coming down.
Fences & gates
Fallen boards, sagging gates that won't shut, new pickets, latches and hinges. Repairs, not full replacements.
Faucets & fixtures
Dripping faucets, running toilets, new shower heads, garbage disposals, light fixtures and ceiling fans swapped out.
Trim, caulk & paint
Baseboards, casing, quarter round, re-caulking tubs and sinks, and touch-up painting where the repair went.
Assembly & installs
Flat-pack furniture, workbenches, storage racks, screen doors, house numbers, mailboxes, weather stripping.
Rentals & turnovers
Landlords: the between-tenant punch list in one trip. One call, one invoice, unit ready to show.
The odd one
If it's bugging you and it takes a person with tools and a truck, ask. Worst case I know who to send you to.
Straight talk
I'm not a licensed contractor — yet. Here's exactly what that means for you.
Most guys hide this in the small print. I'd rather you hear it from me before you hire me, because knowing the line is what keeps you out of trouble too.
I'm currently studying for my California general contractor's license. Until that number is in my hand, state law limits me to smaller jobs — and that's the work I take. If your project is bigger than that line, I'll say so on the phone and point you toward somebody licensed to do it. No hard feelings, no wasted trip.
Why that's good news for you: small jobs are all I do, so they don't sit at the bottom of somebody's schedule behind a kitchen remodel. Yours is the job.
What I can take on today
- Jobs where labor and materials together come to $1,000 or less
- Work that doesn't require a building permit
- Jobs I do myself — no crew, no subs
When you should call somebody licensed
- Anything structural, or anything needing a permit
- New electrical circuits, panel work, or re-piping
- Roofing, room additions, whole-room remodels
- Anything an insurance claim is attached to
